Homeschooling in Manitoba
Many parents in Manitoba are choosing to homeschool. In the 2009-2010 school year, there are approximately 2000 students being homeschooled. Raising children is certainly one of the most important things people do. It is wonderful to have the freedom in this province to homeschool our own children, to teach them the important things in life, and to teach them in the ways that they learn best.
A parent choosing to homeschool takes on a very important responsibility. It is necessary for children to be well-equipped in all areas in life. Literacy and numeracy skills are the most important ones for a student to acquire, but a child should also gain knowledge in the areas of science and social studies in order to have an education comparable to that provided by the public school system. A homeschooling parent doesn’t receive support and resources from public schools or from the government. But choosing to homeschool does not have to mean choosing to go it alone. There are many valuable homeschooling resources available on the Internet.
